Firearms Guide — The Walking Dead Online 3
Every firearm in The Walking Dead Online 3 Early Access serves a distinct role in headshot-only walker combat and PvP survival. This guide covers the USP, AK-47, ACR, M24, Springfield, and other guns — including spawn locations, ammo types, and loadout recommendations for TWD Online 3.
Understanding Firearms in TWD Online 3
Firearms are the primary tool for walker headshots at range and PvP engagements at military points of interest. All guns require ammo that occupies precious inventory slots alongside your 20-slot base capacity (30 with backpack). Choosing the right firearm for your route — USP for early game, M24 for helicopter crashes — defines extraction success.
Pistols — USP and Sidearms
The USP is the most common pistol in Early Access, spawning in Woodbury-area loot and low-tier military crates. It handles walker headshots at close to medium range with moderate damage. In PvP, the USP loses to any rifle user unless you land surprise headshots — use it as a backup sidearm, not a primary for National Guard runs.
| Weapon | Type | Best Range | Spawn Tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| USP | Pistol | Close-Medium | Common — Woodbury, low military |
| Various pistols | Pistol | Close | Uncommon — scattered loot |
Assault Rifles — AK-47 and ACR
The AK-47 delivers high damage per shot with manageable full-auto recoil for mid-range PvP at National Guard encampments. It consumes rifle ammo quickly during walker horde clears — budget ammo slots in your inventory. The ACR offers lower recoil and better controllability, making it the best all-purpose rifle for players who want one gun for walker headshots and player fights.
Both rifles spawn at National Guard encampments, the Military Base, and helicopter crash sites. See our weapons guide for farming routes and weapon tier list for meta rankings.
Snipers — M24 and Springfield
The M24 bolt-action sniper is the premier long-range headshot weapon for walker elimination and PvP overwatch. One well-placed headshot drops walkers efficiently with minimal ammo waste — ideal when inventory space is tight. The Springfield bridges sniper and rifle roles with faster follow-up shots at the cost of peak damage per round.
Snipers dominate helicopter crash PvP. Control elevated positions with an M24 before pushing the crash site for loot. See helicopter crash guide.
Ammo Management
- Pistol ammo — Common; suitable for USP backup loads.
- Rifle ammo — Required for AK-47 and ACR; stock up at military POIs.
- Sniper rounds — Rare; prioritize for M24 and Springfield headshots only.
- Reload key R (PC) — Always reload between engagements, not during them.
Shotguns and Special Weapons
Shotguns excel at close-range walker headshots where aim precision matters less — especially valuable on mobile controls. They underperform at Military Base long engagements where rifle and sniper users hold sightlines. Grab a shotgun for Woodbury clears; swap for rifle before National Guard farming.
Firearm Spawn Locations
Woodbury and residential zones: USP, occasional shotguns. Correctional Facility: mixed mid-tier firearms. National Guard encampments: AK-47, ACR, military ammo. Military Base: all tiers including M24. Helicopter crashes: highest-tier weapons with PvP competition. Full map details on locations page.
Gunfire alerts walkers and players. Firing an AK-47 at a National Guard site announces your position — carry a plate carrier (+50 HP) and meds for the PvP that follows.
Loadout Recommendations
Starter: USP + melee + bandages. Mid-game: ACR + USP backup + plate carrier + backpack. End-game PvP: M24 + AK-47 + full meds + plate carrier. Plan with inventory planner and learn combat bindings on combat controls page.
