Weapon Tier List — The Walking Dead Online 3
This weapon tier list ranks every known firearm in The Walking Dead Online 3 Early Access from S-tier meta picks to D-tier weapons you should replace immediately. Rankings consider headshot damage, range, reload speed, ammo availability, and PvP performance in TWD Online 3 by developer TWD Online.
S-Tier Weapons
S-tier weapons dominate both PvP engagements and walker headshot efficiency. The M24 bolt-action sniper excels at long-range headshots with minimal ammo waste — critical when inventory is limited to 20 base slots. The AK-47 offers reliable full-auto damage in mid-range firefights at National Guard encampments and helicopter crashes where multiple threats appear simultaneously.
| Tier | Weapon | Strengths | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | M24 | One-shot headshot potential, long range | Sniper overwatch, helicopter crash control |
| S | AK-47 | High DPS, reliable at mid-range | PvP, military zone clears |
| S | ACR | Low recoil, versatile range | All-purpose loadout primary |
A-Tier Weapons
A-tier firearms perform well in most situations but lack the dominance of S-tier picks. The Springfield rifle bridges gap between sniper and assault roles with strong headshot damage at medium-long range. The ACR sits between A and S depending on attachment availability during Early Access updates.
| Tier | Weapon | Strengths | Weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Springfield | Strong medium-range headshots | Slower fire rate than AK-47 |
| A | ACR | Controllable recoil | Slightly lower peak damage |
| A | Shotgun (various) | Close-range headshot bursts | Useless at Military Base long sightlines |
B-Tier and Starter Weapons
The USP pistol sits at B-tier — adequate for early-game walker headshots and backup sidearm duty, but outclassed in PvP against rifle users at National Guard sites. Starter weapons found near Woodbury spawn zones generally fall into B or C tier. Replace them quickly using routes from our weapons guide.
D-Tier — Replace Immediately
- Broken or low-durability pistols — Jam mid-fight; discard for any B-tier upgrade.
- Improvised melee-only loadouts — Viable for stealth but not a "weapon tier" substitute at Military Base.
- Weapons with no available ammo — A rare M24 with zero rounds is effectively D-tier until you find military ammo.
Tier placement shifts during Early Access balance patches. Check the update log after each patch for weapon stat changes from TWD Online.
Tier List Methodology
We rank weapons based on: headshot kill reliability on walkers, time-to-kill against armored players (plate carrier +50 HP), reload speed under pressure, ammo spawn density at National Guard encampments and helicopter crashes, and inventory slot efficiency. A weapon that kills walkers efficiently but loses every PvP fight drops in tier.
Community feedback from the official Discord at discord.gg/zPY878jtTV informs tier adjustments. No weapon is permanent S-tier if TWD Online nerfs damage or recoil in a balance update.
Best Weapons by Activity
For helicopter crash PvP: M24 or AK-47 with plate carrier armor. For silent Woodbury looting: melee (see melee guide) with USP backup. For National Guard farming: ACR for controllable clears. For first-hour survival: grab whatever firearm spawns first, then upgrade per our first hour guide.
Compare gear that supports your weapon choice on the gear tier list and medical supplies on the supplies tier list. Full weapon stats and spawn locations are in the firearms guide.

Meta Trends in Early Access
Currently the meta favors ranged headshot weapons at military POIs while melee dominates quiet supply runs. As TWD Online adds weapons and attachments via the roadmap, expect tier shifts. Ammo economy matters — an S-tier M24 without rounds loses to a B-tier USP with plentiful pistol ammo.
Weapon Availability by Game Phase
During the first sessions of Early Access, most players will only encounter USP pistols and melee weapons around Woodbury. The AK-47 and ACR become accessible once you commit to National Guard farming routes. M24 and Springfield rifles appear primarily at Military Base static spawns and helicopter crash dynamic events, making them aspirational goals that define mid-to-late Early Access progression for dedicated players.
