Vehicles — The Walking Dead Online 3
The Walking Dead Online 3 V3 update added drivable vehicles — one of the biggest mobility changes since Early Access launched. Cars let squads cross the expanded map faster, chase helicopter crashes, and extract heavy loot before rival players arrive. This guide covers every vehicle type observed in V3, the fuel and jerry can system, where cars spawn, and how vehicles interact with PvP and inventory rules.
Why Vehicles Matter in V3
Legacy Walking Dead Online had limited mobility — players ran everywhere while PvP shooters camped choke points. V3 vehicles shorten travel between Sanctuary, Woodbury, National Guard camps, and the bunker region. A full squad in a working car can reach a helicopter crash before solo runners on foot, flipping loot economics. Vehicles also create new PvP moments: car chases, roadblocks, and fuel theft.
Vehicle Types
| Type | Seats | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan | 4 | Common spawn near roads; balanced speed and fuel use |
| Pickup / utility | 2–4 | Often found near National Guard areas; good off-road |
| Emergency / military | 2–4 | Rare; faster but attracts PvP attention |
Exact model names may vary by patch. Treat seats and fuel capacity as more important than cosmetic skin — a four-seat sedan moves your entire squad with one fuel tank.
Fuel & Jerry Cans
Vehicles require fuel. Empty tanks leave you stranded in PvP territory — worse than walking. Jerry cans are portable fuel items looted from garages, gas stations, and military supply crates. Keep one jerry can in inventory when planning long routes on the loot routes page. Fuel consumption increases with speed and collisions; drive smoothly to stretch range.
- Check fuel gauge before leaving Sanctuary or Woodbury.
- Refuel away from sniper lines — standing still at a car is dangerous.
- Share jerry cans in squads — one player dedicated to logistics saves runs.
- Abandon empty cars strategically; do not block bunker gates.
Where Cars Spawn
Cars spawn at roadside pull-offs, parking lots near Woodbury, gas stations, and some military checkpoints. They are world objects — other players can steal your parked car. Do not leave rare loot visible in seatless vehicles. After major crashes or bunker runs, assign one teammate to guard the car while others loot.
Vehicles & Combat
Running over walkers may not count as headshots — verify current mechanics in our walker guide. Players can shoot drivers and passengers; plate carriers still help. High-speed ramming into players is inconsistent — rely on firearms from our firearms guide for reliable kills. Car horn spam draws attention — use it only to coordinate with friends.
Vehicle physics and damage are Early Access features. Expect bugs where cars flip or despawn — report on official Discord.
