How to Get Weapons — The Walking Dead Online 3
Weapons define your survival capability in The Walking Dead Online 3. This guide covers where to find every weapon tier — from starter USP pistols in Woodbury to M24 snipers at helicopter crashes — with optimized farming routes and PvP safety tips for TWD Online 3 Early Access.
Weapon Tier Progression
Weapons spawn based on location tier. Woodbury gives USP pistols and shotguns. Correctional Facility adds mid-tier rifles. National Guard encampments spawn AK-47, ACR, and military ammo. Military Base and helicopter crashes offer M24, Springfield, and the best gear in the game. Progress through tiers — do not skip to Military Base with starter gear.
| Weapon | Best Spawn Location | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| USP | Woodbury | Starter |
| Shotgun | Woodbury, Correctional | Low-Mid |
| AK-47 | National Guard, Military Base | High |
| ACR | National Guard, Military Base | High |
| M24 | Military Base, Heli Crashes | Top |
| Springfield | Military Base, Heli Crashes | Top |
Fastest Path to Your First Gun
Loot Woodbury residential buildings immediately after spawn. USP pistols and shotguns spawn in drawers, shelves, and floor loot. If Woodbury is picked clean, try outskirts buildings or wait for respawn. Our first hour guide covers the complete starter path.
Mid-Tier Weapons — Correctional Facility
After mastering Woodbury, push the Correctional Facility for improved firearms and A-tier medical supplies. Clear indoor walker groups with melee to save ammo. PvP traffic is moderate — carry bandages and retreat if outgunned. Extract with your upgrade and return for more.
High-Tier Weapons — National Guard
National Guard encampments are the most reliable source of AK-47 and ACR rifles. Expect PvP — equip plate carrier (+50 HP) before pushing. Full strategy in our National Guard looting guide. Route planning on loot routes page.
Never push National Guard without a firearm, meds, and ideally plate carrier armor. You will lose every fight and feed better weapons to other players.
Top-Tier Weapons — Military Base and Helicopter Crashes
M24 and Springfield snipers spawn at the Military Base and helicopter crash events. These are the most contested locations in TWD Online 3. Squad play with M24 overwatch is standard. See helicopter crash guide for dynamic event strategy.
Weapon Selection Tips
Check our weapon tier list for meta rankings. Carry one primary rifle + one melee minimum. Plan ammo slots in your 20-30 slot inventory. Learn each weapon's headshot feel in combat controls before PvP engagements.

Weapon Death and Recovery
Losing a weapon in a death bag at National Guard or helicopter crashes is frustrating but recoverable. Return to Woodbury, re-loot a basic firearm, and rebuild through Correctional Facility before attempting military zones again. Experienced players keep a mental "recovery route" that takes 20 minutes from zero gear to National Guard-ready loadout.
Weapon Ammo Pairing
Every weapon requires paired ammo inventory planning. USP needs pistol ammo (2-3 slots), AK-47 needs rifle ammo (5-6 slots), M24 needs sniper rounds (3-4 slots). Picking up a weapon without corresponding ammo slots in your inventory plan wastes the weapon slot. Always check ammo availability at the same POI where you find the weapon before extracting.
An AK-47 with zero rifle ammo is a melee stick. Stock ammo at the same encampment where you find the weapon.
Trading and Sharing Weapons
While formal trading is not confirmed in Early Access, squadmates can coordinate weapon distribution during group runs — one player carries an extra AK-47 for a teammate who lost theirs in a previous death. Group weapon sharing accelerates recovery after PvP losses and builds squad loyalty for long-term Early Access progression together.
